Solicantus rouge is created from some of the finest and most diverse vineyards of Blaye, which lies in sight of the Gironde estuary in the world famous region of Bordeaux, France. The vines were planted in 1985 and thrive on the rolling hill top slopes receiving adequate sunlight throughout the growing season. Clay and limestone rich in nature, the soils bring to your glass the best expressions of Merlot. Soli meaning soil and Cantus meaning melody in Latin, the wine has been created in perfect  harmony of the terroir and the savoir-faire of the wine makers. The vines are tended to with the utmost love and respect. We have always practiced sustainable farming, now the vineyards are officially in conversion to organic.

The grapes are harvested late September & early October, vinified in steel tanks followed by four weeks of maceration to extract flavours, tannins and colour. Later the wines rest in french oak barrels for 18 months before being bottled.

We have combined the elegance of merlot with the richness of cabernet sauvignon and the plushness of malbec to offer you a complex and luxurious wine. Solicantus is a wine that gracefully evolves over time to provide a pleasurable experience.

Our brand of french wine is built on strong ethical values and therefore we do not use any animal products in the fining process of the wine.

Tasting Notes

On the nose the wine is inviting with a charming bouquet of ripe red and black fruits with nuances of spice and notes of refined cedar. A tapestry of rich and complex flavours engulfs the palate. The fruit, tannins and acidity are beautifully balanced with a vibrant structure rendering a gorgeous mouthfeel. The wine is opulent and has a fine expression.
